Long hair (no-shave) hair transplant in Hyderabad

Discreet Hair Restoration with No Visible Signs of Surgery

The main purpose of a Long Hair Transplant is to give you a preview: a clear idea of how your hair will look after full growth.

For many patients, the biggest hesitation about a hair transplant is the recovery period. Standard techniques usually involve shaving the donor or recipient area, which makes it obvious that a procedure has taken place.

At Dr. Madhu’s Advanced Hair Transplant Centre in Jubilee Hills, we offer the Preview Long Hair Transplant. Hairs are transplanted at their natural length, so the treated area is covered when you leave the clinic.

The transplanted long hairs shed naturally within a few weeks, as all transplanted hair does. The preview gives you immediate coverage and a clear view of your new hairline design. Your permanent result grows in over the following months.

Our legacy

Pioneers of long hair transplantation in India

Dr. Pathuri Madhu performed India’s first Long Hair Transplant in 2010. He introduced the technique for public figures and busy professionals who needed a discreet option.

Today the procedure is led by Dr. Madhu together with Dr. P. Ram Sushruth. Patients benefit from more than 15 years of clinic experience with this unshaven technique.

The procedure

What is a preview long hair transplant?

It is a hair transplant in which follicles are harvested and implanted with the hair shaft left at its natural length, which is why it is also called a no-shave hair transplant, an unshaven hair transplant or an instant result hair transplant.

In a standard transplant, donor hair is trimmed to 1–2 mm before harvesting. Here, our team uses specialised instruments and handling techniques to keep the full-length hair intact. The long hairs are then placed in the recipient area so they blend with your existing hair.

By the end of the procedure, the treated area is covered. You can see the shape, direction and placement of your new hairline straight away.

Technique

FUT or FUE: why we usually recommend FUT for long hair

The procedure can be done with either Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) or Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT, the strip method). In our experience, FUT generally gives better results for a long hair preview.

Usually recommended FUT (strip method) A thin strip of donor tissue is removed intact. Our team dissects the grafts under Zeiss stereo microscopes, which protects both the long shafts and the roots.
Possible FUE (unshaven FUE) Each long hair is punched out individually, which raises the risk of damaging the shaft or cutting the follicle.

FUT does leave a fine linear scar at the back of the scalp. In most patients it is hidden by surrounding hair, but it can show if you later wear your hair very short. We discuss this trade-off with every patient before deciding on the method.

Candidate selection

Not for everyone: how we select candidates

This procedure is not right for everyone. We assess each patient carefully and may advise you not to consider this procedure for three main reasons.

Donor areaLimited donor hairThe procedure needs a dense, plentiful donor area. If your baldness is extensive or donor density is low, every graft is better used in a standard high-density transplant to cover as much of the scalp as possible.
Hair suitabilityInsufficient hair length and qualityYour hair needs to be long enough and of good quality for this technique. Sufficient length gives immediate coverage of the treated area and a much better-looking preview.
Most importantNot fully understanding the shedding phaseAfter 3–4 weeks, the transplanted long hairs begin to shed, and this phase can continue for up to 3 months. This is normal and unavoidable, and it does not mean the transplant has failed. The roots stay safely in place, rest, and begin growing new permanent hair over the following months. You must clearly understand and accept this before surgery, and we go ahead only with patients who have realistic expectations about this phase.

Recovery

What to expect after surgery

The main drawback of this procedure is the shedding phase. While the long hairs shed, it can look as though your hair is falling out. By about 3 months, the treated area may look much as it did before the transplant. This is temporary, and new permanent hair grows in after that.

  1. Day 1You leave the clinic with the treated area covered by long hair.
  2. Days 7–14Mild redness settles. With FUT, sutures are usually removed in this window.
  3. Weeks 3–4The transplanted long hairs begin to shed. The roots remain in place.
  4. Up to 3 monthsShedding continues, and the treated area may look as it did before the transplant.
  5. Months 5–6New permanent hair starts to grow as fine hair, then gradually becomes longer and thicker.
  6. Months 8–10 (men)Hair reaches its full length.
  7. 18 months or more (women)Full length can take longer in women.

Expertise

Why surgical experience matters

A Long Hair Transplant takes longer and demands more precision than a standard FUE or FUT procedure. Long hairs must be handled gently so the follicles are not damaged and the shafts do not tangle.

At our centre, the procedure is led by Dr. Pathuri Madhu, who performed India’s first Long Hair Transplant, and Dr. P. Ram Sushruth, an ABHRS diplomate with 7 years of specialised experience. They are supported by a trained surgical team, high-powered magnification and careful graft-handling protocols designed to protect graft survival.

Experienced. Expert. Ethical.

That's the standard we bring to every patient.

Questions

Long hair transplant: frequently asked questions

How long does a long hair transplant take?

A long hair transplant typically takes 6 to 8 hours because each full-length follicle is delicately harvested and implanted without trimming.

How much does a long hair transplant cost in Hyderabad?

At Dr. Madhu's Advanced Hair Transplant Centre, a long hair transplant is charged at ₹95 + GST per graft. The total depends on the number of grafts, the technique used and the extent of the area treated. We give you an exact quote after your consultation.

Is it painful?

The procedure is done under local anaesthesia, so you should feel little discomfort. Mild soreness afterwards is usually managed with simple medication.

When can I go back to work?

Most patients return to work within 2–3 days, and the long hair keeps the procedure discreet.

Will the final result look like the preview?

The preview shows your hairline design and placement. Final density depends on how the new hair grows in, which takes about 8–10 months in men and can take 18 months or more in women.
