Over-plucking and threading
Chronic plucking, waxing, or threading over years damages the dermal papilla, causing permanent loss of follicles. Eyebrow transplantation permanently replaces these lost hairs with living follicles.

Ultra-refined single hair restoration for thinning, scarred, or over-plucked eyebrows at Dr. Madhu’s Advanced Hair Transplant Centre
The eyebrows are the most expressive aesthetic feature of the human face, providing crucial structural framing for the eyes and facial symmetry. When eyebrows become sparse due to repetitive over-plucking, trauma, burns, surgical scars, or genetic factors, it can dramatically alter one's facial harmony and confidence.
Eyebrow restoration is fundamentally distinct from scalp hair transplantation. It is one of the most micro-surgical and artistically demanding procedures in plastic and dermatologic surgery. At Dr. Madhu's clinic in Jubilee Hills, our ABHRS-certified surgeons utilize fine single-hair follicular units harvested from soft donor zones, placing each graft with custom micro-blades at ultra-flat angles that mirror the delicate flow of natural eyebrow hair.
Anatomical architecture
A natural human eyebrow is not simply a patch of hair; it is a complex, three-dimensional architectural structure. While scalp hair emerges at an angle of roughly 45 degrees, natural eyebrow hair emerges almost completely flat against the skin at an acute 10 to 15-degree angle. Furthermore, the direction of hair growth changes continuously across three distinct anatomical segments:
In addition to angular precision, our surgeons pay rigorous attention to hair shaft concavity. Every natural hair has a slight curvature; during implantation, each individual follicle must be rotated so its concave surface curves inwards toward the skin. This prevents hairs from curling awkwardly outward or bristling.
Candidate evaluation
Eyebrow transplantation is suitable for both men and women seeking to restore lost density, reshape irregular borders, or permanently conceal facial scars.
Chronic plucking, waxing, or threading over years damages the dermal papilla, causing permanent loss of follicles. Eyebrow transplantation permanently replaces these lost hairs with living follicles.
Childhood falls, lacerations, burns, cleft lip/palate repairs, or surgical scars through the eyebrow can leave noticeable bare patches. Micro-grafts can be implanted into scar tissue to restore full contour continuity.
Many individuals are born with naturally faint, short, or sparse eyebrows due to genetics. A bespoke transplant provides permanent fullness and shape without the daily burden of cosmetic pencils or microblading.
Patients who have experienced eyebrow loss due to medical conditions or stable non-inflammatory alopecia can be considered once our dermatologists confirm complete disease inactivity via trichoscopy.
Surgical protocol
Precision execution from donor harvesting to microscopic placement ensures impeccable aesthetic results.
Coarse scalp hairs from the mid-occiput would appear bristly on the brow. We exclusively select the finest single hairs from the lower nape or retro-auricular scalp behind the ears using 0.75 mm micro-punches.
Every extracted graft is examined under Zeiss stereo microscopes. Multi-hair follicular units are separated into individual single hairs. Excess epidermal collar and tissue are trimmed to ensure flat, bump-free healing.
Using custom surgical blades as fine as 0.6 mm, our surgeons create razor-thin recipient slits at acute 10° to 15° angles. This ensures rapid vascular healing, zero tissue pitting, and complete absence of cobblestoning.
Grafts are implanted with ultra-fine jeweler's forceps under high magnification. Each follicle is positioned at the precise depth and rotational alignment so the natural hair curvature hugs the skin contour seamlessly.
Recovery & maintenance
Understanding the post-operative journey is essential for every prospective eyebrow transplant patient. Because living hair follicles are transplanted, they undergo a natural biological transition.
The essential trimming routine: Transplanted scalp hair retains its intrinsic biological growth memory. Unlike native eyebrow hair that naturally stops growing at 1 cm, transplanted hair will continue to grow at scalp speed (about 1 to 1.2 cm per month). You must trim your eyebrows with small grooming scissors every 10 to 14 days and use a light brow gel to maintain perfect grooming.
Mild swelling or faint bruising around the upper eyelids may occur for the first 48 to 72 hours. Tiny pinhead crusts form at recipient sites. Gentle saline cleansing is performed daily, and crusts wash off completely within 7 to 10 days.
The transplanted hair shafts will naturally shed as the follicles transition into a temporary resting phase. This is entirely normal. The healthy follicular roots remain anchored beneath the skin, preparing for new growth.
Fine, delicate new hairs begin to emerge from the transplanted follicles. The new brow line starts to take shape with soft coverage along the mapped arch.
The transplanted hairs thicken, mature in caliber, and establish their permanent density and arch definition, delivering natural, lifelike eyebrows that endure for life.

Questions & answers
Most patients require between 150 and 350 individual single-hair grafts per eyebrow, depending on whether the procedure is for minor densification, scar concealment, or complete reconstruction of the brow arch and tail.
Donor hair is selectively harvested from the retro-auricular area (behind the ear) or the lower nape of the neck. These areas provide the finest caliber hair shafts that most closely mimic the soft, delicate texture of natural eyebrow hairs.
Scalp hair emerges at a 45-degree angle, whereas eyebrow hair emerges almost completely flat against the skin at an acute 10 to 15-degree angle. If grafts are placed at standard scalp angles, they will bristle or stick straight out. Our surgeons use custom 0.6 mm micro-blades to ensure the hairs lie flush against the brow ridge.
Yes. Because the transplanted follicles originate from the scalp, they retain their biological growth rate and do not automatically stop growing at a short length like natural eyebrow hair. Patients easily maintain their desired brow shape by trimming the hairs with small grooming scissors every 10 to 14 days.
Suitable candidates include individuals with sparse eyebrows from over-plucking, trauma or burn scars, congenital thinning, or stable hair loss conditions. A complete dermatological evaluation with trichoscopy is performed at our Jubilee Hills clinic to ensure donor hair health and skin stability.
Initial micro-crusting typically flakes away within 7 to 10 days. The transplanted hair shafts then shed during weeks 2 to 4, which is a normal biological phase. Active regrowth begins around month 3 to 4, with final density, natural arch contour, and full maturation achieved between 8 and 10 months.
