Hair transplant in Hyderabad: how it works

Experienced. Expert. Ethical.

From consultation to final result, with FUE, FUT or a combination of both

A hair transplant moves live hair roots from areas that resist balding, the back and sides of the scalp, to the bald area. The moved hair keeps growing like the donor hair. At Dr. Madhu's Advanced Hair Transplant Centre in Jubilee Hills, every procedure is done by ABHRS-certified surgeons.

Step by step

How a hair transplant works

Six steps, from your first consultation to the final result.

  1. Consultation and graft estimate

The surgeon examines your hair loss (the Norwood grade), your donor area and your hair quality, and estimates how many grafts you need. See am I a good candidate?
  2. Taking the grafts

Grafts are taken from the donor area by FUE (one at a time with fine punches), by FUT (a thin strip, closed with a trichophytic closure) or by a combination of both.
  3. Preparing every graft

Each graft is examined under the Mantis microscope and refined under Zeiss stereo microscopes (URFUG); FUT strips are dissected by the open method. PRP supports the grafts while they are out of the body.
  4. Counting

Refined grafts are sorted into trays of 20 and counted, so you know exactly how many you receive. See how we count grafts.
  5. Implanting

Grafts are placed into very small incisions of 0.7 to 0.9 mm in the recipient area, in the natural direction of growth, at 25 to 40 grafts per sq cm (dense packing).
  6. Recovery and growth

You can work from home on day 1 or return to the office around day 4. The hair looks moderately full around months 4 to 6, and the final result is seen around months 8 to 12.

Where the hair comes from

The donor area and the recipient area

The donor area

The back and sides of the scalp, where hair resists balding. How many grafts can be taken safely depends on its density, size and hair quality.

About the donor area

The recipient area

The bald area, measured in square centimetres. A larger area needs more grafts, and sometimes a second session.

Techniques

FUE, FUT and combination: three ways to take grafts

The best method depends on the extent of balding, donor density and graft quality. FUE is advised most often, combination for some patients, and FUT for a few.

Planning

Graft density and session sizes

Dense packing

More grafts per square centimetre make the result look fuller. The centre places 25 to 40 grafts per sq cm, depending on the grafts and the scalp, and the surgeon decides the density for each patient.

Mega, super mega and giga sessions

A mega session is 2,500 grafts, a super mega session 4,000 grafts and a giga session more than 4,000 grafts. Large sessions need a well-trained team and are usually done as a combination session.

Questions

Hair transplant in Hyderabad: frequently asked questions

Who is a good candidate for FUE?

People with a wide, safe donor area and good graft quality. If the donor area is limited, the hair is thin or balding is still progressing, FUT or a combination may suit you better. The surgeon decides at consultation.

How bad is the FUT strip scar?

Advances in suturing have made the scar much narrower. The centre uses trichophytic closure, so hair grows through the healed line and in most patients the scar is a fine, pale line.

How many grafts do I need for a hair transplant?

It depends on your Norwood grade: about 1,000 to 1,500 grafts for grades 1 and 2, rising to 6,000 to 7,000 for grade 7. The surgeon confirms the number after examining you.

Which is the best method of hair transplant?

It depends on the extent of balding, donor density and graft quality. FUE is advised most often, combination FUE and FUT for some patients, and FUT for a few.

When can I go back to work and travel?

You can work from home on day 1 and return to the office around day 4. Travel is usually possible from day 4 if recovery is normal and the surgeon agrees.

What is the cost of a hair transplant in Hyderabad?

At Dr. Madhu's, FUE is ₹75 + GST per graft, FUT is ₹60 + GST, DHT is ₹80 + GST and long hair transplant is ₹95 + GST. The total depends on the number of grafts.

When will I see the results?

The transplanted hair looks moderately full around months 4 to 6, and the final result is seen around months 8 to 12.

What are the side effects of a hair transplant?

Swelling, small pimples, numbness and temporary shedding of nearby hair (shock loss) can occur and settle. Persistent pain, spreading redness or signs of infection need medical attention.
