FUT (strip) hair transplant in Hyderabad

Experienced. Expert. Ethical.

Achieve maximum coverage without shaving at Dr. Madhu's Advanced Hair Transplant Centre

While minimally invasive extraction techniques have gained widespread popularity, the Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT) or "strip method" remains a powerful, highly relevant surgical option in modern hair restoration. Often regarded as the gold standard for high-yield grafting, FUT has a vital, specialized role, particularly for patients requiring extensive coverage or those who wish to avoid shaving their head entirely.

At Dr. Madhu's Advanced Hair Transplant Centre in Jubilee Hills, our board-certified surgeons perform FUT hair transplant in Hyderabad using highly refined, modernized techniques to deliver excellent density and undetectable, natural results.

The procedure

What is the FUT (strip) method?

The FUT method involves carefully removing a thin, horizontal strip of hair-bearing skin from the "safe donor area" at the back of the scalp. Once the strip is removed, the donor area is meticulously sutured closed.

The harvested strip is then immediately transferred to our specialized dissection room. Using high-powered Zeiss stereo microscopes, our extensively trained technicians dissect the strip into individual follicular units (groups of 1 to 4 hairs) with absolute precision, ensuring zero follicular transection. To guarantee complete surgical transparency, these ultra-refined grafts are sorted into customized stainless steel trays, with exactly 20 grafts per tray, allowing patients to verify their exact graft count before implantation.

Why it still matters

The unique advantages of FUT: why it still matters

Though less commonly utilized by newer clinics today, FUT possesses distinct, irreplaceable advantages that make it the superior choice for specific clinical scenarios:

Advantage 1

No shaving required (zero immediate disfigurement)

One of the most significant benefits of FUT is that the donor area does not need to be shaved. Only a very narrow band of hair is trimmed to harvest the strip. The surrounding hair remains completely intact and falls naturally over the donor site immediately after the surgery. This allows patients to return to their normal professional and social lives without the visible "disfigurement" or awkward grow-out phase associated with full-head shaving.

Advantage 2

Maximum graft yield in a single session

FUT is uniquely efficient at moving a massive amount of hair in one sitting. It remains the absolute best method for patients dealing with advanced, larger areas of baldness. A standard strip session typically yields 2,500 to 3,000 grafts, but in patients with excellent donor density, a mega-session can yield up to 4,000 to 5,000 grafts (over 8,000 individual hairs).

Advantage 3

The power of combination therapy (FUT + FUE)

For patients with severe, extensive baldness, combining both FUT and FUE in a single mega-session is the most effective strategy. By utilizing the strip method to harvest the core volume of grafts and supplementing with FUE from surrounding donor zones, we can safely harvest the maximum possible number of grafts without over-harvesting or thinning out the back of the scalp.

The surgical skill factor

Why only select centres perform FUT

Today, many clinics exclusively offer FUE because it requires less surgical infrastructure. FUT is a highly complex, surgeon-dependent procedure that cannot be performed by just anyone. It requires an advanced facility, a large team of skilled technicians, and, most importantly, a surgeon with exceptional, traditional surgical skills.

Advanced suturing and trichophytic closure

The primary concern most patients have regarding FUT is the linear scar. However, with advanced surgical skills, this is very well managed. At our centre, our surgeons utilize an advanced technique known as Trichophytic Closure. During this closure, the edges of the skin are specially trimmed and angled before suturing. This forces the hair to grow directly through the healed incision line, effectively camouflaging it. In most patients with sufficient scalp laxity, the scar settles into a remarkably fine, pale line that is nearly impossible to detect, even with relatively short haircuts.

Is it for you?

Are you an ideal candidate for FUT?

FUT is highly recommended for patients who:

Have sufficient scalp laxity

Good flexibility (laxity) of the scalp in the donor area is essential to comfortably close the incision and yield a fine, flat scar.

Require large numbers of grafts

Those with advanced hair loss needing maximum coverage in a single session.

Want to keep their hair long

Patients whose professional or personal lives require them to avoid shaving their head for surgery.

Have limited donor density

For those where extracting individual FUE punches might cause the donor area to look too thin.
